Steps for UAN Generation, Activation, and Face Authentication via UMANG App

This is to inform you that regarding PF Enrollment of new joiners, we have received a new update from the EPFO Portal.

As per the revised process, employees are now required to generate their UAN through Face Authentication via the UMANG App.

Once the UAN is generated and received from the employee, you may proceed to generate the PF ECR challan accordingly.

Please ensure that all new joiners are informed of this update and complete the process at the earliest.

Please find below the detailed process for UAN Generation, Activation, and Face Authentication via UMANG App.

A. How to Generate UAN

Purpose: For users who don’t have a UAN and want to generate and activate it.

1. Open UMANG App and go to “UAN Allotment and Activation.”
2. Enter:
   • Aadhaar Number
   • Mobile Number
   • Tick the consent checkbox for Aadhaar validation.
3. Tap “Send OTP.”
   • Install the Aadhaar Face RD App if prompted.
   • Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
4. The system will check if Aadhaar is already linked with a UAN:
   • If yes: You’ll be notified.
   • If no: Proceed to Face Authentication.
5. Face Authentication:
   • Check the consent box and tap “Face Authentication.”
   • Perform the face scan.
6. The system fetches your details and generates a new UAN.
7. The UAN is sent via SMS to your registered mobile number.

B. How to Activate UAN

Purpose: For citizens who already have a UAN but haven’t activated it yet.

1. Open UMANG App and select “UAN Activation.”
2. Enter:
   • UAN
   • Aadhaar Number
   • Mobile Number
   • Tick the consent checkbox for Aadhaar validation.
3. Tap “Send OTP.”
   • Install Aadhaar Face RD App if needed.
   • Enter the OTP received on your mobile.
4. The system validates UAN and Aadhaar linkage in the EPFO database.
5. Face Authentication:
   • Check the consent box and tap “Face Authentication.”
   • Perform the face scan using the UIDAI API.
6. The system validates the details, activates the UAN, and sends:
   • UAN and Temporary Password via SMS.
   • Updates photo and address in the EPFO database.

C. Face Authentication of Already Activated UANs

Purpose: To update EPFO records using biometric verification.

1. Open UMANG App and click on “Face Authentication of Already Activated UANs.”
2. Check the consent checkbox and tap “Face Authentication.”
   • If Aadhaar Face RD App isn’t installed, follow the link to install it.
3. Perform the face scan using the UIDAI API.
4. The system fetches and updates the following verified details in the EPFO database:
   • UAN
   • Aadhaar
   • Mobile Number
